Kramer Electronics Products Transcend Environmental Limitations in Kiev Underground Railway
ISE, Amsterdam, January 2005 – Kramer Electronics Ltd., a worldwide supplier of audio, video and computer graphics signal distribution, switching and processing equipment for the broadcast, production, security, education, home theater and ProAV presentation markets, is pleased to announce that more than 2,000 Kramer Electronics products have been installed on 570 trains in the Underground Railway in Kiev, Ukraine, along with 33,000 meters of cable and 9,900 connectors. The Underground recently began a passenger service that features station names and transition station information, as well as alarm messages and video advertisements on 3,200 15-inch LCD PC monitors. The Underground Railway officials chose Kramer VP-200xl line amplifiers and Kramer VP-300N high-resolution XGA distribution amplifiers for the project. Both were selected for their wide video bandwidth, especially for high-resolution graphics modes, as well as their multi-monitor capabilities. Each car on the 110 five-car trains has three VPN-300N units, distributing video to the five monitors. Each car also has one VP-200xl. Product requirements included computer XGA resolution at the same level and quality in every car, along with small product dimensions and performance stability for optimum use in the noisy environment of the subway which is filled with electrical interference. In addition, the Kiev Underground team wanted a quick production response and permanent technical support in the city speaking the native language. “These features were not unique by themselves, but combined, they are a very rare find with a single manufacturer,” said Serge Dmitrenko, Director of Technical Support of the Kramer Electronics Moscow team (www.kramer.ru). “We addressed their needs with a number of product trials and unique solutions. We also provided detailed attention to their market, with the project support they needed.” Not only did Kramer meet the stringent and unusual requirements of the Underground project, but the products also stood up to the dust, dirt, and vibration presented by the Underground environment. According to Dmitrenko, no changes were needed on the products themselves. “Kramer made no special adjustments to the products to be used on the Metro. They were good as they were,” he said. Regular Kramer features like sturdy and reliable construction made the Kramer products stand out in the product review. Kramer’s ability to provide very detailed mechanical information on its products to support the integration of the project and to supply cables for use with the XGA signals that have excellent shielding from interference also made Kramer a natural fit. In addition to the amplifiers, Kramer also provided hundreds of 5-coax shielded cables and 15 pin HD-15 connectors for the XGA signal distribution.
