Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) about AVoIP
AVoIP (AV over IP, or Audio-Visual over Internet Protocol) streaming solutions allow for transmitting audio, video, and control signals using standard network infrastructure. Unlike traditional AV setups with dedicated cables and hardware, AVoIP leverages existing networks for greater flexibility and scalability. Click here to learn more about AVoIP.
Traditional AV requires range extenders to reach the destinations, resolution scalers to adjust to the output monitor, and a physical matrix to switch the AV signals.
However, with AVoIP streaming solutions, the source signal is encoded from HDMI to packets, which are then sent to the IP network. The AV signal can be sent to any point reachable by the network, where it is decoded to the relevant signal of the output monitor. A virtual matrix can be deployed anywhere on the network to allow central management of the entire AV solution. Click here to learn more about AVoIP.
AVoIP significantly simplifies the management of audio-visual content for end users by offering two main advantages:
- Flexibility and Scalability: AVoIP allows users to distribute audio and video content over existing IP networks, enabling flexibility in the placement of AV equipment. Users can easily scale their AV systems up or down, based on their needs – without significant infrastructure changes.
- Cost-effectiveness: Traditional AV distribution systems often require dedicated cabling and infrastructure, which can be expensive to install and maintain. AVoIP leverages existing IP networks, reducing the need for additional infrastructure investments.
1. Simplified infrastructure: AVoIP utilizes existing IP networks, eliminating the need for separate cabling and infrastructure for audio-visual equipment. This simplifies the network management for IT managers and reduces the overall cost of deployment.
2. Centralized management: AVoIP systems can be centrally managed through a single interface, allowing IT managers to monitor and control all AV endpoints from a central location. This centralized management simplifies configuration, firmware updates, and troubleshooting tasks.
3. Integration with IT infrastructure: AVoIP systems can seamlessly integrate with existing IT infrastructure, enabling interoperability with other devices and systems on the network. IT managers can leverage existing networking technologies, security protocols, and management tools to streamline operations and ensure compatibility.
AVoIP holds many benefits for System Integrators who maintain a solid knowledge of networked AV. SIs who understand the needs of end-users and customers, cater to the requirements of their IT departments, and can engage in large projects with futureproof AV solutions they can sell. AVoIP offers SIs two main advantages:
1. Reduced hardware costs: AVoIP systems eliminate the need for costly hardware components, such as matrix switches and distribution amplifiers, associated with traditional AV distribution systems. This reduces hardware costs for SIs and allows them to deliver cost-effective solutions to their clients.
2. Remote accessibility: AVoIP systems support remote access and monitoring capabilities, enabling SIs to provide proactive maintenance and support services to their clients. SIs can remotely diagnose and address issues, reducing downtime and minimizing service disruptions for the client.
AVoIP solves few acute problems of the traditional KVM equipment – no more limitation on a physical number of input video ports, real remote access to your servers without limitation of HDMI cable length, and the ability to stream the content on isolated VLAN. Easy to configure and use KVM functionality – namely, auto-switching between the Keyboard, Video & Mouse of several remote computers. For example: An operator in a command and control center can use a single mouse and a single keyboard to control several devices, thanks to an AVoIP-based KVM setup.
Kramer AVoIP solutions offer flexibility, allowing deployment without needing a dedicated management service. However, as your project grows, its distribution over the network nature requires the ability to configure, control, and monitor all devices from a central location. For projects spanning multiple remote sites, a cloud-based solution to manage AV signals and devices is essential. If your IT department’s policies restrict external network connections, an on-premises management platform provides an effective solution.
