Internal policies
Our internal environmental policies are based on European Union environmental directives such as WEEE/RoHS, REACH and the directives for batteries and packaging recycling. These directives lay down rules on the restriction of hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment (EEE) and their proper reuse or recycling. The goal of the directives is to protect human health and the environment, including environmentally sound recovery and disposal of waste.
We also manage a due diligence program with our providers across our supply chain, making sure every material, component, and assembly part complies with RoHS, REACH, China RoHS, and other international directives.

International regulations and directives
European Union
Kramer implements an information system across its supply chain to gather and disclose information as required by RoHS, REACH and other EU directives or laws.
WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment)
Under the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) directive, when customers buy new electrical and electronic equipment from Kramer, they are entitled to send new equipment back for recycling when it ultimately becomes waste.
In certain EU countries where Kramer is represented directly by its offices, the company has taken it upon itself to supply recycling services to its customers as directed by law.
RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances)
The RoHS directive restricts the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment. All Kramer products sold in the EU comply with RoHS requirements. The CE mark on Kramer products indicates RoHS compliance.
REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorization, and Restriction of Chemicals)
Kramer complies with the European Union regulation REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorization, and Restriction of Chemicals). This regulation is aimed at ensuring a high level of protection of human health and the environment against risks from chemicals, while enhancing competitiveness and innovation.
Most of the provisions in REACH concern the chemicals themselves, as well as manufacturers and importers of chemicals. However, a few provisions directly affect “downstream users” and more specifically, producers of articles such as Kramer for whom chemicals are not the main aspect of business. A producer of articles is defined as an organization that incorporates substances or mixtures into or onto materials to form an article. As a producer of articles, Kramer is obligated to communicate to its customers and partners about its use of certain chemicals in articles that are on the Candidate List. This list is characterized as “substances that may have serious effects on human health or the environment and, therefore, the risks resulting from their use must be properly controlled and the substances progressively replaced when possible.” (European Chemicals Agency [ECHA])

China RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment)
The Measures for the Administration of Restriction of the Use of Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Products took effect as of July 1, 2016 (China RoHS2) and replaced the previous version that was in power since February 2007.
The purpose of this regulation is to control and reduce environmental pollution caused by electrical and electronic equipment at end of its life, and to encourage clean production and comprehensive utilization of resources in this industry (recycling).
The major change in China RoHS2 compared to the original China RoHS is the expansion of the product scope from Electronic Information Products (EIPs) to all Electric and Electronic Products (EEPs).
A detailed list of the types of products affected by this measure is published by the Chinese government in the Catalogue of Management of Restriction of Use of Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Products. Kramer products are defined as EEPs, therefore the measure applies to our hardware products.
Currently, restricted substances and their maximum concentration values tolerated by weight in homogeneous materials are as follows:
- Lead (0.1%)
- Mercury (0.1%)
- Cadmium (0.01%)
- Hexavalent chromium (0.1%)
- Polybrominated biphenyls (PBB) (0.1%)
- Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE) (0.1%)
Contrary to EU RoHS, products may contain restricted materials above the tolerated concentration, but the public must be notified about it.
All products are marked with either a green or orange China RoHS logo, indicating the environmental protection characteristic of the product. A green logo indicates that the product does not contain any hazardous substances above the tolerated concentration and that it can be recycled. An orange logo indicates that the product contains certain hazardous substances and can be recovered.
All Kramer products sold in China comply with China RoHS requirements and the relevant China RoHS logo is printed on the product label.

Proposition 65 (California)
Proposition 65, officially the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986, is a law that requires warnings be provided to Californian consumers when they might be exposed to chemicals identified by California as causing cancer or reproductive toxicity. The warning is intended to help Californian consumers make informed decisions about their exposure to these chemicals from the products they use. The California Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) administers the Proposition 65 program and publishes the listed chemicals, which includes more than 1000 chemicals. In August 2016, OEHHA adopted new regulations, effective on August 30, 2018, which changed the information required in Proposition 65 warnings.
WARNING: Kramer products contain lead, known to the State of California to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm. Wash hands after handling. For more information, see www.P65Warnings.ca.gov.
